VILLAGE OF EVENDALE
SIGN VARIANCE COMMITTEE
MINUTES FOR THE
OCTOBER 10, 2007 MEETING
The Sign Variance Committee met on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 5:30 in the Council Chambers of the Village of Evendale Municipal Building. Chairman Ted Mueller, Council Representative Stiney Vonderhaar, Bob Luther, and Wayne Mosley were present. Fred Caston was absent. Also present was Adam Litmer and Brad Rowe, representing Evendale Church of Christ, and Pam Morin, Building Department.
The committee heard the following request:
Evendale Church of Christ, 3789 Glendale-Milford Road
Because he is an adjoining property owner to the church, Stiney Vonderhaar rescued himself from the discussion and vote.
Brad Rowe explained that the church’s desire to have a changeable message sign is to give the church better visibility, provide information to members and visitors, and have a space to share inspirational messages.
Their proposal included a double sided, internally illuminated 52” by 72” sign with the height of 6 – 8 feet. They requested a 25 foot setback. Brad Rowe made it clear that the church is flexible in their proposal so that they would be granted some type of sign and they only wanted the same consideration as the other two churches on Glendale-Milford Road.
All adjoining property owners were notified of the meeting. Two neighbors came to the Building Department to view the application. Though neither objected to the proposal, one stated that they hope that the sign would set back a reasonable distance from Glendale-Milford Road.
The committee discussed the three options open to them: to deny the proposal, have the church come back with a more definite proposal, or set restrictions on the sign. They felt that the request was reasonable and wanted to move forward with it. It was discussed that the church was well hidden because of the row of trees along both sides and that it sits down from Glendale-Milford Road approximately two feet.
Bob Luther made a motion to recommend to Council to allow the sign with the following conditions: maximum height of six feet, maximum size of 32 square feet and a setback of 35 feet. This motion was seconded by Wayne Mosley. The motion passed with the vote of 3 – 0.
Stiney Vonderhaar made motion, with a second from Wayne Mosley, to approve the minutes as read. The motion was passed with a vote of 4 – 0.
